Arrested for confiscating a phone?! Only in America...
A father was arrested after disciplining his daughter by taking her iPhone away, something most parents have had to do at least once!
In 2013, Ronald Jackson was arrested after investigators tried to unsuccessfully retrieve the phone and this week he was found not guilty, with the reason being a lack of evidence.
Ronald Jackson discovered a text message on his then 12-year-old daughter's phone that he found rude regarding another woman.
Speaking to CBSDFW, he said, "I was being a parent. You know, a child does something wrong, you teach them what’s right."
“You tell them what they did wrong and you give them a punishment to show that they shouldn’t be doing that," he added.
However, Ronald's ex-wife found out he had taken away their daughter's phone and sent her new husband, a police officer, to get the phone - Ronald refused and at 2am found himself arrested and in jail.
“I didn’t want the police department telling me how to parent my child. It made no sense to me for them to show up and make a big deal out of something that was a small thing,” he said.
“I couldn’t believe they would go to this extent for a cell phone. It didn’t seem right.”
After paying his $1500 bail he was released, but that wasn't the end of the story...
Last year a warrant was issued and he was charged with misdemeanour theft, but luckily a Dallas County judge found him not guilty AND he got to keep the phone despite his ex-wife saying the phone wasn't his to take in the first place.
How crazy is that?!
