Celebrities who upgraded from their cheating partners

Karma, baby

We think we can all agree that cheaters are scumbags not our favourite people. If you don’t have a story where your heart has been broken by an unfaithful jerk partner, you certainly know someone who has. And man, do those tales sting.

For those working in show biz alongside the world’s most beautiful people, the rate of infidelity goes up about 500 per cent* (*not a real statistic, but it sounds about right). But for every case of a dirtbag cheater who shattered their partner’s heart, there is usually a story of karma kicking into gear and introducing the broken hearted to their prince or princess charming. Here are five examples of exactly that:

1. Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston

Starting with the big guns, how could we go past Jen and Brad’s 2005 split? After seven years together, the pair announced that they had decided to separate after “much thoughtful consideration”. While it was never confirmed that the break-up was a result of infidelity, Pitt did later admit that he fell in love with Angelina Jolie while they filmed Mr and Mrs Smith in an interview with Rolling Stone

Aniston, however, went on to meet heart-throb Justin Theroux while filming Tropic Thunder in 2007 and the pair went public with their relationship in 2011. Aniston and Theroux married in August 2015 and are known to gush about one-another constantly. "I always go to bed thinking I'm the luckiest guy in the world," Theroux famously told Extra of his now wife. How sweet!

2. Robert Pattinson

Twilight fans around the world were devastated when news broke that Kristen Stewart had been messing around with director Rupert Sanders behind Robert Pattinson’s back in 2013. Scandal!

Fast forward one year and Pattinson had begun dating singer FKA Twigs, who he is now happily engaged to.

3. Emma Thompson

OK, so this is an oldie but man, was this a drama. Kenneth Branagh was lucky enough to nab himself the phenomenal Emma Thompson, who he married in 1989. After six years of marriage, the pair split, and it was reported that Branagh had started an affair with Helena Bonham Carter. The three Harry Potter alumni have apparently moved past the betrayal, with Thompson stating she forgives Bonham Carter:

“You can’t hold on to anything like that. It’s pointless. I haven’t got the energy for it. Helena and I made our peace years and years ago,” she told the UK's Sunday Times.

Thompson is now married to actor Greg Wise, who she met on the set of Sense And Sensibility in 1995. The duo have two children together, Tindyebwa and Gaia. Wise has lovingly spoken about the fact that he was told by a psychic that he would meet his future wife on the set of Sense And Sensibility and that their relationship was simply, “meant to be.” Nawwwww!

4. Perrie Edwards

What. A. Saga.

Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards started out as an adorable teen couple who began dating in 2012 and from 2013 until 2015 (before and after their engagement), cheating rumours followed the young pair. Reports emerged that Malik had allegedly cheated with a number of different women and in August 2015 he reportedly called off his engagement to Edwards via text message. Ouch.

Edwards, however, moved on with absolute stud Luke Pasqualino in 2016. They dated casually for a few months, but apparently ended things because she is currently too busy with her kickass career to commit to a serious relationship (you look after you, girl). But regardless, check out this guy. This is what you call an upgrade.

5. Gwen Stefani

Another day, another celebrity babysitter cheating scandal. Gwen was left understandably shattered after she allegedly learnt that her husband of 13 years, Gavin Rossdale had been involved in an affair with their nanny for three years. The parents of three announced their divorce in August 2015.

Stefani was quick to move on, confirming she was dating her The Voice co-host Blake Shelton in November 2015. The lovebirds are going strong over a year on and we couldn’t be happier for them!
