New Zealand born Richard made the move to Australia in 1980 with his band Wilde and Reckless. After playing every dive in the country, performing on ‘Countdown' and touring with Grace Jones, he had a brief stint in radio and on Satellite TV. Following this, Richard landed his big break as the host of MTV Australia, helming the ground-breaking show through its six-year run.
In 2012, Richard is celebrating his 25th year at Channel Nine, appearing daily on the Today show, filing regular stories for A Current Affair, reporting for National Nine News, NineMSN and a multitude of other outlets as the Nine Network’s Entertainment Editor.
Richard has interviewed the biggest stars in film and music including; Billy Connolly, Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey, Robbie Williams, Britney Spears, Barbra Streisand, Paul McCartney, Barry Humphries, Neil Diamond, Elton John and Billy Joel.
Richard is also in-demand internationally as an MC. Notable highlights include hosting the nightly concerts in Centennial Park during the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, hosting the G’Day LA and G’Day USA Gala events in Los Angeles and New York, hosting the ARIA Awards, Australian Fashion Awards, Tourism and Travel Events, the Miss Australia Awards and the Annual Golden Globe and Oscars telecasts live from the red carpet in Hollywood. He also hosts a number of charity functions and corporate events and has an enviable list of clients for speaking engagements.
Richard has not restricted his talents purely to presenting. In 2006, he returned to the stage in “Grease: The Arena Spectacular’, winning acclaim for the role of Vince Fontaine. In 2010 he released two CDs “39 #1 Hits of the 1980’s” and “38 More Smash Hits From the 80’s”. Both albums hit the ARIA Top 20 and both contained a Richard Wilde song!
In September last year, Richard released “Black Ties, Red Carpets, Green Rooms” documenting some of the amazing, bizarre and hilarious episodes of his illustrious career. The book was critically acclaimed, becoming publisher New Holland’s #1 best seller for the year.
Richard’s legendary passion for entertainment and his incredible work ethic are only exceeded by his love of family.
