The Animal Under the Fur

The Animal Under the Fur is chick-lit epitomised and so, if you’re looking for a light read that’s a little bit sexy, it’s probably the book for you.

Orphaned on the streets as a baby, Nashville Brown, a.k.a Kill Operative 3, knows better than to rely on anyone. With heightened senses and superhuman strength to survive, she’s been raised as the perfect assassin.

The trick to her success? Keeping everyone, even her best friend, at arm’s length.

Losing his entire family in the span of a year, Carter Smith left his ability to love buried deep in their graves. His only concerns now are completing his missions and effortlessly charming the next temptress to warm his bed.

The key to his accomplishments? Working alone mixed with a Casanova smile.

But when a deadly weapon needs to be stopped from falling into the wrong hands, the lone wolves find themselves thrown into an explosive partnership. Can Carter and 3 lower their guns aimed at one another long enough to succeed, or will their unwillingness to compromise end up destroying more than their perfect records? Whatever their differences, both agree on one thing—in the game of lies and deceit, the line between friend and foe is often blurred by blood splatter.

Our thoughts:

"There were times where the story lost me and I was hoping for less description and more action, but the whole secret-agents-in-love concept was entertaining, even if the story did remind me a little too much of Twilight (with Nashville being the Edward in the equation). It probably wasn’t my favourite read of the year, but I can certainly see why others would gravitate towards it. If you liked the movies Mr and Mrs Smith, Twilight and True Lies, I’d be willing to bet you’d enjoy this book."

"The Animal Under the Fur is action-packed and plants the reader at the centre of the exhilarating missions faced by the protagonist spies. Seeing Nashville and Carter defeat the enemy using their sophisticated gadgets and superhero-like skills is both humorous and exciting. The book is a perfect mix of adventure and romance making it an ideal read for a young adult. The personalities of the protagonists are distinctly different – however both being portrayed as mysterious and attractive. Definitely a great read!"

"When it comes to a chick lit book, I always enjoy stories that involve the main characters going from loathe to love and this one is no different. I really enjoyed the way Nashville and Carter’s relationship changed throughout the book, but I do agree with Steph in that it got a little ‘Twilight-y’ at times, that’s not a bad thing as there is a hint of the supernatural in this story so it works. Once I started reading it, it was quite difficult to put down, with quick chapters this is not a book where you only read one chapter before bed, you will want to read a lot more! The ending was very satisfying and I would recommend to those who are into loathe to love stories like myself!"

"Secret Sexy Spies! Enough said. It’s the ultimate ‘chick-flick ‘book. In my opinion it would make for a great movie. It’s corny at times, but the perfect read if you’re looking to zone out and escape. I couldn’t put it down! I just wanted to keep reading to find out more. It’s a great mix between action and love story. Recommend to all the ladies out there!"
