RIP to the talented performer

The world went into shock last night when Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell was reported dead.

While a full autopsy report has yet to be completed, a preliminary one by medical examiners today determined Chris took his own life in a Detroit hotel room.

The performer’s death came as a shock to family, friends and fans. He’d played a show hours earlier in the US city as part of a tour that was supposed to run until May 27.

Celebrity tributes to Chris poured in on social media and in interviews after the news. Elton John said he was "shocked and saddened" by his death, and called him "a great singer, songwriter and the loveliest man." Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page tweeted:

"RIP Chris Cornell. Incredibly Talented. Incredibly Young. Incredibly Missed."

Chris' history with drugs began at age 13, he once admitted in a 1994 interview with Rolling Stone magazine.

Chris left behind his three children and second wife Karayiannis.
