The heartbreaking final chapter of Sam and Tara's split

By Hayley July 10, 2018

Samual Cochrane has finalised his split from Tara Pavlovic with a touching, but painful, gesture.

The 31-year-old, who confirmed the couple’s split earlier this month, announced he was auctioning off his engagement ring and donating the proceeds to a men’s mental health charity.

“The last time I held this ring there was so much electricity and hope in the air. I remember holding it and believing that I was doing something important and something that mattered. That something was love. After allowing time to pass and the things I’ve discovered I can see that those moments weren’t destined to last.

“I have decided to donate this beautiful ring to charity. This will go to auction for a charity that I believe in.

It’s time to move on and having the beauty sit in a box, when it could be be doing good for others in need. This is really important to me.”

The last post Sam shared was equally emotional, confirming his separation from Tara alongside an image of him proposing to her.

Sam and Tara met as contestants on Channel 10’s Bachelor In Paradise - with the couple getting engaged during the show’s finale.

The fan favourites were hotly tipped to last in the “real world”, with their split coming as a real shock to the Bachie fandom.

This message goes out to all the beautiful people who shared with me such an amazing journey. The fairytale that I took part in was deep and surreal. My proposal was meant to be forever but life sometimes takes you away from the dream and you wake up. So…deep breath.... this has come to an end. I loved Tara with my whole heart and those two people in Fiji fell completely. It’s hard writing this thinking back to those moments. Your joy in our story and the engagement meant so much and I can assure you it is the saddest thing for me to come to terms with. Watching something you valued fall apart and what you love follow a different path is one of the most difficult things. My heart feels broken and obviously having it play out in public adds so many difficult dimensions. I forgot about the cameras in Fiji and I simply fell in love. The truth is difficult but the path ahead will show the way. Obviously there has been speculation for some time but I needed to know for sure before making anything public. That has been hard. Our time together will always hold a beautiful and difficult place in my heart and I have to believe that everything happens for a reason. Thank you everyone for the beautiful support and being on this journey. In a time that was mostly in hiding your words provided magic. I look forward to the future. I got to see that love is real and powerful.... and it is. I’ll find it again.

Tara had previously blasted critics on Instagram who suggested their relationship was ‘faked’ for TV.

“What we felt was 100 per cent real and we both put our best efforts in to make it work in the real world, but unfortunately for different reasons it didn’t work out.”
