"Well worth the wait."

Netflix has given fans of The Crown their first look at Outlander actor Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip.

The streaming service tweeted a photo of the star in character with the caption, "Ambition."

You may also recognise Menzies as Edmure Tully in Game of Thrones and will star in seasons three and four of The Crown according to Variety.

Fans were excited to see the actor in character:

In a statement, Menzies revealed his excitement to be working alongside Olivia Colman who will play the Queen:

"I'm thrilled to be joining the new cast of The Crown and to be working with Olivia Colman again. Becoming her 'liege man of life and limb.'"

Colman and Menzies take over from Claire Foy and Matt Smith who played young Elizabeth and Philip in the first two seasons of the show. Vanessa Kirby, who played Princess Margaret, will be replaced by Helena Bonham Carter.

Josh O'Connor will play the role of Prince Charles, joking in a statement he has "the ears for the part and will fit right in".

The third season will reportedly pick up in the '70s, which is why the characters were recast and will air in 2019.
