“They rarely see each other outside of official business.”

A royal source has told the Daily Beast there is a long-standing rift between Prince Charles and his sons William and Harry with the heir to the throne disapproving of his adult sons.

The source revealed Charles barely sees his sons unless he’s forced to for public duty:

“They are very different people and they just don’t get on… It’s as simple as that. They rarely see each other outside of official business.”

The insider says the reason may be a generational issue.

Charles reportedly doesn’t like the fact Wills and Harry are so popular with the public as they’re able to break with tradition and connect with the public on a more personal level.

The future king reportedly “hates” that his sons are openly emotive about the mental health issues they suffered after the death of their mother Princess Diana. The public viewed them as more relatable.

Speaking with Newsweek last year, Harry said:

“My mother had just died, and I had to walk a long way behind her coffin, surrounded by thousands of people watching me while millions more did on television.”

“I don’t think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances. I don’t think it would happen today.”

The source also added that the younger generation of royals call staff by their first names, which Charles refuses to do.

Tom Bower, the author of Rebel Prince: The Power Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles, a tell-all novel about Charles, said they’re also not fond of Camilla.

Speaking with New Idea earlier this year, Bower said:

“In public, they are all smiles, but behind the scenes they do not like Camilla and see little of each other.”

“This is partly because of what happened to their mother Diana, but also because Charles spent so little time with them when they were younger.”

He also spoke about the rift, saying Charles thinks William is “lazy and not doing enough”.

“William resented being told what to do and was not keen, which deepened the rift with his father. But the Queen and Prince Philip also told him that he and Harry had to increase their royal duties, and so they have done — as we are seeing now.”

However, there is plenty of evidence of the family getting along. For instance, Prince Charles played a large role in Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle.

Charles also reportedly gave a touching speech about Harry at the reception, calling him “my darling old Harry”.

Speaking with the BBC for the documentary Diana, 7 Days, Harry revealed his father had been there for the brothers:

“He was there for us… One of the hardest things for a parent to have to do is to tell your children that your other parent has died.”

The Royal Family received a lot of backlash for its perceived treatment of the princess.
