“I hate the idea of missing one of the greatest moments in history and walking my daughter down the aisle."

Meghan Markle's dad Thomas Markle desperately wants to walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding to Prince Harry, but it seems as though everything is going against him. Mr Markle needs "major surgery" and told TMZ he will be going into surgery at 7:30am on Wednesday (LA time):

“They [doctors] will go in and clear blockage, repair damage and put a stent where it is needed.”

The surgery comes just days before Meghan and Harry will say "I do" in London and despite Mr Markle's heart being "seriously damaged" after a heart attack he suffered last week, he still wants to attend. He told the gossip site:

“I hate the idea of missing one of the greatest moments in history and walking my daughter down the aisle."

He also told them he had received a text from Meghan telling him she loved him and was worried about his health.

“Of course I’d walk her down the aisle. This is a historic moment. I’d like to be a part of history."

Whether Mr Markle will actually make the wedding is another story, as he will need doctors to clear him for the flight which seems pretty unlikely following major surgery.

The news of Mr Markle's surgery comes as Meghan's estranged half-sister Samantha defended her father's decision to stage paparazzi pictures ahead of the wedding.

9Honey Royal Coorespondent Victoria Arbiter says this will no doubt be another blow for Meghan:

"Around Christmas time, Prince Harry was heavily chastised by the Markle Family for claiming in an interview that the Royal Family was the family Meghan never had, and yet here we are.

"If indeed Meghan’s father chooses not to attend this weekend’s royal wedding, it will no doubt be a devastating blow for his daughter, but she will have her mother by her side and her mother will more than rise to the occasion.

"Meghan has been let down time and time again by her father’s side of the family, but it’s time to stop giving them a global platform and for the focus to shift instead to the incredible relationship Meghan and her mother share.

"This will definitely be a wedding for the ages."
