She was forced to shut it down after trolls made her feel unsafe.

Meghan Markle's Instagram account was shut down in January 2018 after the former actress announced her engagement to Prince Harry.

However, Daily Mail is now reporting the Duchess had a secret account until only a few months ago which she used to follow her friends.

The publication reports Meghan had to shut down the account to "protect her mental health" after seeing vile comments from trolls that left her feeling "isolated and alone".

The star reportedly also no longer feels safe in public without protection.

An insider told The Sun the trolls left her feeling very upset:

"Since she shut down her public Instagram, she'd had a fake account to follow her friends. There was some really vile stuff written by social media trolls and obviously she also saw the headlines about her.

"It really got to her and, in the end, she had to shut down that account just before Christmas, too, to protect her mental health. She felt very isolated and alone."

"She doesn't feel safe enough to go out on her own without protection."

The majority of the royal family don't have social media accounts, however, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are the exception to that rule.

Another source told Us Weekly Meghan is finding it "frustrating and stressful" having "no voice" and is finding the constraints of royal life "debilitating".

Since becoming engaged to Prince Harry, Meghan has been unable to voice her opinion on certain topics and feels "miserable" in her new role.

Being royal certainly doesn't seem as fun as we once thought!
