Roxette Star Marie Fredriksson Has Died

By Krisinda Merhi December 11, 2019

She was just 61.

Roxette was and still is one of the world’s most popular pop rock duo. The Swedish pair are the musical genius behind popular hits like ‘Dangerous’ and their iconic 1986 hit ‘It Must Have Been Love’.

But, in sad news, one half of the duo has passed away. Roxette star Marie Fredriksson has died after a long illness.

“Marie Fredriksson died on the morning of December 9 in the suites of her previous illness,” her family wrote in a statement, adding the star “will be buried in silence with only the closest family present.”

Roxette formed in 1986 and released their tenth album, Good Karma, in 2016.

Following the news of Fredriksson passing, their official Twitter account shared a statement from Marie’s bandmate Per Gessle, which read: “Time goes by so quickly. It’s not that long ago we spent days and nights in my tiny apartment sharing impossible dreams. And what a dream we eventually got to share!

“I’m honoured to have met your talent and generosity. All my love goes to you and your family. Things will never be the same.”

Marie, who previously battled a brain tumour in 2002, is survived by her husband Mikael Bolyos and their two children, 26-year-old daughter Inez Josefin and son Oscar, 23.
