“Things hadn’t been right between Emma and Lachy for a while.”

It was surprising news when it was revealed last week that The Wiggles’ stars Lachlan Gillespie and Emma Watkins had separated.

Now an insider has reportedly told Who Magazine that Lachy is struggling with the split and had been hoping he could save the marriage.

“Things hadn't been right between Em and Lachy for a while but he really thought they could work through it.”

“Lachy is devastated.”

The pair was married for two years, announcing their split on social media writing:

“We wanted to let you know that privately for the last six months we have been navigating through a trial separation, and we have made the decision to separate as a couple.”

They added:

“We have chosen a different path to travel in our personal lives, but please know that we are stronger than ever.”

Friends reportedly told Sunday Confidential that Lachlan is particularly shattered over the end of the marriage:

“Lachy is absolutely heartbroken... He was completely besotted by Emma and worshipped her and still does.

“He tried absolutely everything to make it work, but in the end, he couldn't. His heart has been broken.”

In an episode of Jules Sebastian’s show Tea With Jules from 2016, Emma reveals she fell for Lachlan the first day they met, however, it took him longer to fall for her.

“I have always loved Lachlan, since the very day I met you. It's taken Lachlan a long time.”

Lachy awkwardly told her, “I liked you too, it's just…”

Emma then went on to say working together on the road was tough and that they “dwindled” into their engagement:

“You become so close, and you work so closely together, that we already had such a good relationship before we dwindled into becoming engaged.”

The couple was secretly together for two years before going public with their romance in March 2015, two months later they were engaged.

They married in 2016 at Hopewood House in Bowral.
