The Australian Ballet presents Verve - April 2019

By Lynette C April 7, 2019

Never been to the ballet before?

Now’s your chance – The Australian Ballet presents Verve at the Sydney Opera House. See three different modern dance works in one great night. From classical music to german techno, Verve has something for everyone.

This powerful showcase of contemporary dance features three short ballets by homegrown choreographers Stephen Baynes, Tim Harbour and Alice Topp.

Alice Topp’s Aurum moved audiences to tears when it premiered in 2018. Inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi – repairing cracked pottery with precious metals – the work explores damage, healing and the beauty of our flaws. Stephen Baynes’ Constant Variants is filled with velvet-soft, delicate dance, mirroring the mesmerising beauty of Renaissance paintings. Tim Harbour’s Filigree and Shadow completes Verve with a bang. The stripped-back set in this performance allows the speed of the dancing to shine as the dancers move to the German electronic score.

The Australian Ballet’s Verve – coming to the Sydney Opera House 5 - 25 April 2019.
