Times Square Car Crash

One person has been killed and 22 others have been injured

New York man Richard Rojas, a 26-year-old Bronx resident and navy veteran, has ploughed his car into a crowd at Times Square, killing one tourist and 22 others. Rojas was heard telling police, "You were supposed to shoot me! I wanted to kill them!" according to the New York Post.

Rojas had been previously arrested for driving under the influence and wasn't drunk when he sped the wrong way up Times Square. He is currently being tested for drugs as he reportedly appeared to be high.

The navy veteran was seemingly in good spirits the night prior as he partied with friends after getting his car back according to one friend.

Rojas slammed into crowds, then hit a pole with the car bursting into flames as it came to a stop.

Alyssa Elsman, 18, a teenage tourist from Michigan, was reportedly out for a walk when she was hit and killed by Rojas. Her 13-year-old sister was one of the injured bystanders.

Police have taken Rojas into custody. Very sad news this morning.
