If your knees click when you stand up you need to read this

This happens to us all the time!

It turns out, if your knees click when you stand up it could be an early warning sign of an incurable joint condition.

A new study of almost 3500 Americans found there was a clear link between “noisy knees” and the development of painful joints, which could, in turn, lead to osteoarthritis.

Scientists asked participants, whose age averaged 61, whether they had knee pain and took leg X-rays. They were asked whether they had ever experienced clicking or any other kind of noise in their knees.

Those who didn’t have any warning signs in their X-ray, but did have noisy knees were found to have a higher risk of suffering osteoarthritis in the next four years. Those who did have evidence of osteoarthritis in their X-rays, as well as noisy knees, were likely to feel pain within a year.

Lead author of the Arthritis Care & Research study, Dr Grace Lo, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston said those who have signs of osteoarthritis on X-rays don’t necessarily complain of pain:

“There are no known strategies for preventing the development of pain in this group of people."

"This study suggests that if these people have noisy knees, they are at higher risk for developing pain within the next year compared with the people who do not have noisy knees.

"Future studies that target people who have x-ray signs of osteoarthritis, and who do not complain of pain but do report noisy knees, hold the promise of identifying interventions that can prevent knee pain."

Eeek, BRB going to get our knees checked!
