The 5 luxury weekend retreats you need to see

By Amy Power April 3, 2017

Ever heard the saying “go hard or go home”?

Well, while we’re pretty sure whoever said it first wasn't necessarily referring to weekend trips, sometimes it just needs to be your destination-choosing mantra.

If you want to make the most of a long weekend or quick break, or if you’re celebrating a special birthday or anniversary, you really need to enjoy the lap of luxury!

We’ve put together a list of the perfect weekend destinations for when nothing but the best will do…

1. Emirates One&Only, Wolgan Valley, NSW

It doesn’t get much more luxurious than Emirates One&Only in Wolgan Valley. Wolgan Valley is known for being the vacation spot for the world’s elite, including plenty of celebs and boasts incredible views of the Blue Mountains.

Not only is it a beautiful location, but Emirates One&Only was actually voted Australia’s number one hotel by Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards in 2016. Every private suite has its own pool, a veranda and a living room with a sandstone fireplace. You can even upgrade to a room with a kitchen AND STAFF. Yup, you could have your very own butler.

2. Spicers Vineyards Estate, Pokolbin, Hunter Valley, NSW

Just two hours drive from Sydney you’ll find the picturesque town of Pokolbin in Hunter Valley. The top choice in town is Spicers Vineyards Estate, hands down.

Of course, the food is incredible, but so is the accommodation. Your private suite features a king size bed, separate living areas with bluestone fireplaces, a spa bath with a rain shower AND the option of a private courtyard or balcony, with stunning views over the vines and native bushland that Hunter Valley is famous for.

3. Elements of Byron, Byron Bay, NSW

Byron Bay is famous around the world, both for its surfing and its hip, chilled out vibe. Of course, it also screams luxury. Elements of Byron has the premium spot in Byron, with villas just a short walk from the beach.

The aptly named Elements incorporates its natural surroundings in its design, the rooms in each villa have been inspired by earth, air, fire or water and the result is pretty spectacular.

4. Jonah’s Whale Beach, Palm Beach, NSW

You may already know Jonah’s Whale Beach for its fine dining, sun-filled lunches, but did you know this iconic Northern Beaches spot also offers overnight stays? Jonah’s boasts eleven ‘Ocean Retreat Rooms’ with private balconies to take in the stunning views.

5. Anchorage, Port Stephens, NSW

Step into Anchorage and you could be forgiven for thinking you’d just been transported to every New Yorker’s favourite summer spot, The Hamptons. But no, you haven’t even left New South Wales.

Their luxury villas boast king size master bedrooms, open plan living areas and private outdoor jacuzzi and sun loungers, as well as stunning views of the harbour. Gorgeous.
