You Need To Know This: Breast Cancer Awareness

By Rebecca O'Malley October 1, 2018

In partnership with Blooms The Chemist, we give you the 411 on good health. This month, we're talking about breast cancer awareness.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Australian women, especially among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.  One in eight women in Australia will be diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 85.

That’s a frightening figure… so how about some good news?

Survival rates are increasing as a result of early detection and regular check-ups.

Blooms The Chemist understand the impact a breast cancer diagnosis can have on families. Throughout the month of October, Blooms The Chemist is hosting breast awareness clinics across selected stores.

Appointments take an easy 15 minutes and a qualified Apotex nurse will run through a personalised consultation, focusing on breast awareness and an assessment of breast cancer risk factors. They will also run through self-assessment techniques.

Regular self-examination is crucial for early detection – and it doesn't have to be a chore. You can check your breasts when getting dressed, looking in the mirror or showering.

Every woman should be breast-aware – this means knowing what is normal for you and recognising any unusual changes.
