4 ways TV is actually good for you

2 min read

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it turns out relaxing in front of the TV with a mug of something hot, the remote and a marathon of your favourite TV shows ahead of you could actually be good for you!

No longer will TV watching get a bad wrap, at least not with these five theories around…

1. Watching TV improves self-control

Ok, so binge-watching your favourite TV shows might make you feel like you’re out of control but studies reveal that people who watch TV are able to stay on top of their self-control, more so than those who don’t watch that much/any TV.

Why does it help people from giving in to their bad impulses? The happiness and good mood that comes from watching the shows you love is the “digital equivalent of friends and family,” providing comfort, so we are more likely to behave in other areas of our life that require discipline.

2. Watching TV can make you feel more generous

A study conducted in 2011 revealed that when people watch nature shows, they end up feeling more energetic and giving. There must be something about watching cute animals and beautiful scenery that makes us want to do the right thing.

3. Watching TV relieves stress

Apparently watching TV contributes to lower blood pressure and therefore provides some pretty decent stress relief. It’s also fun. Win win.

4. Watching TV can increase your creativity

Love having the TV on in the background while you’re working or doing other things? Well studies reveal that the noise of a TV can boost creativity, even if you’re not totally watching what’s going on.
