The heartbreaking reason Elsa Pataky and Chris Hemsworth moved to Byron Bay

Pataky opened up about the life change for her family

Spanish actress, producer, mother and wife to Thor, Elsa Pataky is no stranger to the demands and pressures of celebrity life. The 40-year-old has been in the public eye for quite some time now, especially since she married Hemsworth back in 2010.

In fact, it was this very pressure that led to her family’s move to Byron Bay in 2014.

“We couldn’t take it anymore,” Pataky told news.com.au.

“In LA, my kids had a camera in front of them all the time and it made my daughter [India] become very scared of photos.

“She didn’t want pictures taken and didn’t want to be in photos.”

The strain became too much for Pataky, Hemsworth and their young children, India, four, and twins Tristan and Sasha, three so, the celebrity family decided to up and leave Hollywood for a much more laid-back life in Byron Bay, Australia.

“Byron is more relaxed than in LA for us,” she said.

“But they [paparazzi] do bother you … and it’s something we find all the time but there’s nothing you can really do about it.

“At least here they [paparazzi] aren’t right in front of us and in our face."

While for now, life by the sea with the chilled out locals in Northern NSW is working well, Pataky does still have slight reservations about the future:

“We did the move three years ago and I’m so happy with it,” she said.

“I really wanted to be in a place where I’m out of reach to the media … and in Byron, we just feel like locals. People really respect us … and it’s what I always dreamt of giving to my kids.”

“I hope it keeps being like this because I don’t know where else we will go.”
