Meet the kangaroo who thinks he's a dog!

By Marni Dixit April 24, 2015

Meet Dusty the kangaroo. He was adopted by Ashley and Felicity Stewart, who live in Esperance, WA, and now the two-year-old 'roo thinks he's one of the couple's dogs!

Dusty even rides around in the back of the ute with Lilly and Rose - the Stewarts' dogs - and sleeps on a dog bed just like them too.

Ashley says he had no idea Dusty would end up so comfortable with his pet pooches, and remembers exactly when the strange behaviour started...

"I loaded the dogs in [to drive to a dam on the couple's property] and he was hanging around and looking up at the truck and so I just picked him up and put him in the back with them," Ashley told Daily Mail Australia.

"I didn't think too much of it, we drove down and came back together.

"He's been fine sitting on the back, as I don't drive too fast because I'd be worried about him jumping off. He doesn't jump in, I lift him in and out."

Ashley adds, "He's a very placid creature, and every time you walk out the door if he's not laying in his bed he comes up and wants a pat and a scratch.

"He even puts his arms up and wraps them around you like he's giving you a cuddle."

Cute!

The little roo also wears a reflective collar, so if he goes wandering off during the day and night falls, the couple can shine a torch around to find him.

And while Ashley admits the situation is a little odd, he says there are plenty of people around who also take in and look after orphaned joeys.

We just love this story and hope that Dusty, Lilly and Rose are friends for a very long time.
