A Cabaret Festival is heading to Sydney in July 2019

9 days of high kicks, sequins and fun.

Things are spicing up in Sydney this winter, with the inaugural Sydney Cabaret festival launching in July.

The nine-day festival will celebrate both international and Australian cabaret stars, including legendary Tony Award-winning Jennifer Holliday, and local legends like Phil Scott and Jonathan Biggins.

Circus and variety acts will also be at the festival, including Cheeky Cabaret.

Sequins and clowns not quite your thing? Go for comedy!

Tim Benzie is bringing his hilarious Solve-Along-A-Murder-She-Wrote show to the festival.

Even children can get involved, with Petit Cabaret offering a kid-friendly show.

Test your high-kick skills in a masterclasses with Jennifer Holliday and Alison Jiear, and watch the pros during the Grand Final of the Sydney Cabaret Competition.

The full program is colourful and extensive, and Festival Artistic Director Trevor Ashley says he’s thrilled with the full lineup:

“I have loved Cabaret as long as I can remember. As a confused child growing up I discovered this incredible art form that celebrated unique personalities, and more than that, an irreplaceable bond between artist and audience,” he says.

“I have long dreamed that we could bring cabaret home to Sydney so I am immensely proud to present the inaugural Sydney Cabaret Festival, which in its first outing brings together some of my favourite artists from around Australia and the globe.”

In the immortal words of Fred Ebb: What good is sitting alone in your room? Come to the Cabaret.
