Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the musical is bringing its magic to Melbourne

By Krisinda Merhi March 14, 2019

Tickets go on sale Friday March 15.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the musical has captivated Sydney audiences since it opened in early 2019.

But Sydney can’t get all the fun, so the musical is taking its magic to Melbourne in August, playing at Her Majesty’s Theatre.

The show, based of Roahl Dahl’s beloved book of the same name, is full of magic, energy and chocolate, of course.

The show is just as sweet as the original and features popular tunes from the original film including ‘Pure Imagination’, ‘The Candy Man’ and ‘I’ve Got a Golden Ticket’.

The search has now started for four Melbourne boys to play the lead role of Charlie, and auditions will be held in April.

For the auditions, producers are looking for Melbourne-based boys of around 10 years of age with great singing ability and a “wonderful innocence and vulnerability.”

They will join Broadway alumni Paul Slade Smith, who plays chocolate extrodinare Willy Wonka.

Sorry to any adults looking for their big break (read: looking for an excuse to eat loads of chocolate).

Get ready Melbourne, because Oompa-Loompas, incredible inventions, costumes and sets and more are heading your way in this everlasting showstopper!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory opens in Melbourne in August 2019 at Her Majesty’s Theatre. Tickets go on sale at 1pm on Friday March 15. Visit charliethemusical.com.au.
