Come From Away Announces Final Extension Because Melbourne Is Obsessed

By Isabella Bull December 18, 2019

It’s the most successful musical in Comedy Theatre history.

It’s fair to say the Australian production of global phenomenon Come From Away has been a hit.

So much of a hit, in fact, that Melbourne has been blessed with an extension until the 8th March 2020, to cope with the high demand for the show’s presence.

Since opening in July 2019, Come From Away has established a new record as the most successful musical in the Comedy Theatre’s history, continuing to attract capacity houses and spontaneous standing ovations from the entire audience... at every single performance.

Whoa.

Producer Rodney Rigby said he has been blown away by the reception.

“Come From Away in Melbourne has exceeded our wildest expectations, embraced by audiences from across Australia and New Zealand and making a significant additional impact to the Victorian economy.”

The ground-breaking musical is based on incredible real-life events in the wake of the September 11 tragedy, when 38 planes carrying nearly 7,000 people from over 100 countries were redirected to Gander, Newfoundland - almost doubling the population of the remote Canadian town.

There are currently five productions of Come From Away playing simultaneously around the world, and its won 40 international awards.

But there’s a catch - due to touring commitments in China, there are literally no further extensions possible for Come From Away… so if you haven’t seen it yet, get in quick when tickets go on sale on the 20th December.
