Get your fishnets ready ‘cause Chicago is coming to Melbourne

By Krisinda Merhi April 8, 2019

The musical, not the city.

A New York City institution, Chicago captures the very essence of Broadway: a tale of fame, fortune, glitz and glam all tied together with a jazzy score.

Chicago has six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards and a Grammy to its name and now the award-winning show is making its way across the world to Melbourne.

Well, it’s technically only moving interstate from Sydney to Melbourne.

The musical will open at Melbourne’s State Theatre on 13 December, 2019 and will run through summer and into 2020.

Based on real life events back in the roaring 1920s, jazz slayer Roxie Hart shoots her lover and -along with Cell Block rival, double-murderess Velma Kelly - they fight to keep from death row with the help of a smooth-talking lawyer, Billy Flynn.

Created by the musical theatre talents of John Kander, Fred Ebb and legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, Chicago is a must see.

The musical opens with an ode to “Murder, greed, corruption, exploitation, adultery and treachery… all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts.”

If that doesn’t get you interested, then maybe the music will?

The sassy score includes popular tracks like All That Jazz and Razzle Dazzle.

If the song titles are anything to go by, this is going to be one sparkly extravagant show.
