The Nanny: The Musical Is In Development

By Isabella Bull January 9, 2020

And that’s how she became...

If you’re a fan of arguably the best sitcom ever, this news is for you.

Producers Brian Zeilinger and Scott Zeilinger announced on Wednesday that The Nanny is being developed into a Broadway musical… And yes, Fran Drescher is a part of it.

The legendary actress and fashion icon, who executive produced and starred in the 90’s show, will be writing the musical, along with fellow genius Rachel Bloom (of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend).

Rachel Bloom says she is honoured to be part of the project:

"The Nanny was a fundamental part of my childhood because it was the first time I saw an openly Jewish female protagonist on television. The story of Fran Fine, however, is a universal one that has touched the hearts of people of every race, religion, and orientation."

Last year, it was rumoured that a reboot of the classic was underway with Drescher returning as the nanny, but she says she won’t reprise her role for the musical adaptation.

“I would do it myself but we'd have to change the title to The Granny," she joked.

We hope this makes its way to Australia… stat.
