Prepare to embrace your dark side because American Psycho the musical is coming to Aus!

An American classic with a twist

When you think of American Psycho the last thing that comes to mind is a musical.

But producers BB-Arts Entertainment and Two Doors Productions have put their minds together to bring one of the most well-known American horror flicks to the theatre.

Based on the novel American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis, which also inspired the 2000 film starring Christian Bale, the show tells the story of Patrick Bateman, an investment banker with a dark indulgence and dwindling sanity.

But American Psycho isn’t just a horror film.

At it’s core it is a pitch black comedy about what it means to be alive in the world we live in.

Alexander Berlage, director of the smash hit musical Cry-Baby,  says ]”It is shocking just how relevant American Psycho is to us now.”

“American Psycho holds up a mirror to show how blind-sided we have become in our obsession with self-image. In a world of selfies and hashtags, is anything actually authentic or is everything just strategy and facade?”

The show’s music and lyrics are by Tony Award winner Duncan Sheik and includes 1980s hits from Phil Collins, Tears for Fears, New Order and Huey Lewis and the News.

This bold new musical will have its Australian Premiere at the Hayes Theatre Co from 10 May 2019.

American Pyscho will premiere in May 2019 at Sydney’s Hayes Theatre. Book now at hayestheatre.com.au
