The final season of Downton Abbey is currently airing in Australia. We’re a little behind the times down under, with the shows finale airing on Monday night in the US.

To mark the ending of one of the most beloved TV dramas ever, John Legend stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform the Downton Abbey theme song.

The opening credits of Downton Abbey give viewers a tour of the grand Crawley estate set to a piano instrumental.

While Legend is an accomplished pianist, he’s also an Oscar winning songwriter. So of course, he had to add some lyrics to the famous opening tune.

He might be having a bit of fun, but Legend plays the entire thing totally straight-faced, earnestly singing lyrics like “Grandmamma is such a witch” and “let’s all ride horses and talk smack”.

His voice is flawless, just listen to the note he hits when he sings “Mr Bates is a murderer but he’s a really nice guy.”

John captured everything about the series in his final lyrics, where he insults everyone’s least favourite Crawley Lady Edit.
